Some have said that the doctrine did not exist in any form until twentieth century, thus implying that neither the early church nor the Reformers believed in the doctrine. How does the rise of liberalism and the higher criticism of the Scriptures (e.g. the Bible is full of historical mistakes and is made up of fairy tale stories and embellishments) make it understandable that inerrancy would not be articulated until now, but that it was always believed?
